Holiday Diet Madness!

Welcome Everyone! I hope you are enjoying the Holidays. The Holidays can be such a warm and wonderful time filled with family, friends, and… FOOD! The average person puts on at least one holiday pound per season that is unlikely to ever come off.

I’m not going to lie…. This, amount other things, puts me in a quandary about food. The reason I am doing a liquid diet is because my food addiction is out of control. I am in danger healthwise because of food. So I have to take drastic steps. However, as I plan my Post Fast daily diet, I am feeling conflicted.

The truth is, food is what tends to bring people together. Now you can eat healthy food together of course. But as Food Addict, I really shouldn’t have anything with any sugar or flour of any kind. Add on top of that preferring a life-giving, life extending whole-food plant based diet with a gluten sensitivity….. I’m screwed if I want to eat out or at someone’s house. Only cooking for myself at home really works.

Wouldn’t it be nice if the same diet choices worked for everyone? If our bodies weren’t susceptible to addictive behaviors? If our weight could be better regulated on its own. But with highly addictive food literally everywhere that short circuits our brains and faulty wiring in our bodies that cannot regulate hunger, fullness, and compensation properly…. What can we do?

Willpower is short lived… It isn’t about moral fiber. Most of us cannot make decisions all day and still always make perfect food choices. It’s usually about restrictive periods and then free periods. This leads to weight ups and downs which leads to us feeling like a failure. Why does food have to be so all consuming for some of us?

So since not all diets work for everyone, what am I to do? I want to be a fit and healthy woman who can feel confident and be able to wear clothes that actually fit. I want to avoid disease and cancer. I know when I am off my Liquid diet, I have to have a game plan.

Training yourself to have a healthy and restrictive diet is possible. It is. But then I think of some of my favorite times with my family getting to go to a delicious restaurant and not just have a plain salad and steamed vegetables. I love taking my Dad to eat and I love Asian food! But technically I can’t eat anything there! No white rice, no animal products, no flour in the sauce, no sugar in the sauce, no noodles, no soy sauce. So I may avoid weight gain by not eating there and feel physically great…. But I feel soooooo deprived to the core of my soul! I love food!!

So what am I getting at? I’m sharing with you that the struggle is real. It is to hard to pick between being thin and enjoying life! For me personally to be thin, I have to be crazy restrictive or it doesn’t work. So I need to keep strategizing. Those of you struggling are not alone and you will need your own individual daily diet that will need some sorry of balance or you will be miserable. So if you grab that pie or Christmas cookie don’t be too hard on yourself… You are human! Sometimes we just want to choose fun and enjoyment over weight issues and restrictions. The struggle continues!

Til next time folks….. Enjoy the Holidays and don’t beat yourself up if you gain that Christmas pound!

So why a Liquid Fast?

Welcome Everyone!

So why am I doing a liquid fast you might ask? Isn’t that so extreme? Well I have been overweight most of the last 20 years. I’ve read so many books on nutrition and health and have often tried to follow a whole foods plant-based diet because I believe that is the healthiest option for me. But I kept feeling like a failure because even on whole food plant-based diet I would still gain weight. I am a food addict, and without an in depth plan most diet changes do not work! That led me to have very harsh criticisms toward myself that I was just weak and didn’t have any willpower. We judge ourselves in a similar way to how we judge other people around us. It wasn’t until my sister introduced me to the Bright-Line Eating Book by Susan Peirce Thompson, that I finally understood the psychology behind food addiction and how common it really is with the food that’s so available today.

After reading the bright-line eating Book, my eyes were wide open. I realized that I am extremely high on the susceptibility scale for being a food addict. 10 is the highest on the scale but honestly I am probably more like a 20. When it comes to food I have zero control. The only success in the last 20 years that I’ve had in losing weight and getting out of the danger zone health-wise and not feeling like a giant eye sore walking on the street, was when I did a 5-week liquid fast. It was tough but I got my weight down and for the first time in a long time I felt amazing physically and emotionally!

I’d only committed to a month and so after 5 weeks I decided to try to just go back to a plant-based diet. But…. unfortunately within days I was binge eating. For many of you who are plant-based, you know that there are so many options now out there that are vegan but definitely not low calorie. So once I’m able to eat solid food, the gig is up! So my goal is actually to be on a very high nutrition liquid diet indefinitely….. Yes.

I’ve had almost 40 years of binge eating and those days have to stop if I’m going to make it any longer in this life. So I would have to say, what is more drastic? Dying in my 40’s from obesity related illnesses, or having a delicious and high nutrition liquid diet which doesn’t test my food addiction nearly as much as solid food?? Liquids fill me up a lot faster, so even if they are not very low calorie I still lose weight because the density tends to be a lot less than solid food.

The truth is, everyone is different. Not one thing will work for everyone. So I’m not suggesting that everyone who is overweight go on a liquid diet, not at all. I’m just explaining why this is right for me at this time in my life.

Thank you for joining me today! I hope this sheds a little light on what I am doing and my journey to lose over a hundred pounds!

First Step of a Long Journey

Welcome Everyone!

So I have been away from my blog for awhile. Have had a lot of crazy things happening over the last couple years. There are some things that have gotten really bad, and some things that are really brightening up!

Let’s get you caught up…. First off, even though I have been studying nutrition for a very long time I am still what seems to be a very high-level food addict. This means that no amount of head knowledge and so-called will power will ever get me off of the literal sauce. I’ll talk about this more in a minute. So the bottom line is I’ve packed on the pounds! I also had an extremely toxic person in my intimate inner circle for the last couple of years and that made things worse.

I was really ready for a change, so change finally came looking for me. I moved to a different place, the toxic person that was in my life is gone, and I’m finally getting a fresh start. I really wanted to get back into writing, so now I have written three children’s books and I’m on my fourth and fifth at the moment. So things are really looking up. I’ve been having some health challenges so now it’s time to tackle the biggest elephant in the room, my weight.

As I mentioned before I am a high-level food addict. Which means no matter how much self-control I have in other areas of my life, in this particular area I fall flat on my face. If you struggle with this I’m going to have a picture below of a book that I read that helped me realize a lot of things. It has amazing information! It made me realize I’m not just lazy, crazy, or just low on willpower. Even if you decide not to follow her eating plan, the things that she discusses will help you immeasurably anyway.

I did try the methods in her book and had the first success I’ve had in years. I actually didn’t feel that hungry anymore and my cravings and insatiable hunger slowed way down. I thought wow! But the problem with me is that my addiction is intense, and every morsel of solid food I put in my mouth is potentially a gateway food. So I did the program twice and ended up failing twice. I still think the plan could work for me in the future, but I need to retrain myself about food before I can do that. If you read the book you’ll get a better idea of what I mean. By the way that book is on audible.com as an audiobook and is really good to listen to in the car or on a road trip.

So what I am starting today is a very nutritional liquid diet. I know there’s a lot of negative stigma about this sort of thing. But, with my health going down the drain fast it is time to do something drastic. The concept of the bright lines in the book above talks about having black and white boundaries. I have to retrain myself that food is for sustenance and that for someone like me it cannot be for pleasure. I either have to pick life or I have to pick food. I’ve been picking food for a couple of decades now and I’m paying the consequences!

So come with me on this journey to lose over a hundred pounds. I’m going to be posting on social media daily. It’s going to be filled with pictures, and many reviews of products, then updates on my weight and how I feel. This is a journey that I’m looking forward to but is also a necessity. But it’s going to be one hell of a ride! Join me…

The Value of Relationships & Work/Life Balance

Welcome Back Everyone! Earlier this week I shared with you how stress overtook my life this year and has made me very ill. While I am recovering a little every week,  I have learned some important things and have had a harsh reality check. My biggest regret over the last decade is the time spent away from relationships and people so I could be overworked and miserable just to barely scrape by. What made it worse is I have never liked any of my jobs, because they are not aligned with my passions and interests. This can be a hard thing to come by, a job that is something you wake up each day excited about.  We all have to pay bills right? But how many of us love what we do every day? Does it fill us with purpose and make a difference in our own lives and the lives of the people around us? We truly can make a difference no matter where we are and what we do for work, but today we often have the freedom and ability to follow our passions.

  • Did You Know? According to the Washington Post based on a 2013 poll, only 13% of all employees are engaged in their jobs and enjoy going to work. See Article

Often we take long hours and jobs that do not interest us to support ourselves and our families. Sometimes this is just a necessity.  But how often do we get stuck in a depressing Groundhog Day situation? I often have told my coworkers that every day feels like the same “stuck in a rut” day… everyday. I often do not know what day of the week it is, because weekends off are for “other people.” I have often worked evenings so I miss out on…. everything. Birthdays, dinners, parties, events, concerts, dates, etc the list goes on.

In the end, people and relationships are what matter. It is true that some individuals live for their work or profession… and relationships are not a priority, and that is their choice and they are aware of it. What I found in my case, was a rude awakening that all this time working long hours has left my social realm cold and impersonal. Relationships are mutually beneficial investments into ourselves and others! I have too often found myself having very few people to call when I want to share exciting news or need support when going through a very rough time. I have not been able to spend the time to invest in people enough. It can be hard for some of us to reach out and make those connections. Rejection and judgment will happen, not everyone will like us or return the connection.  But you know what? Life is fleeting and there are so many amazing people out there for all of us.

worklife-balance

So what have I done and can do in the near future to remedy this? What can you do in your life to strengthen your bonds with people, forge new meaningful connections, and have a solid work-life balance? The truth is that it will be a little different for all of us.

Here are some options:

  • Finding a career that is aligned with your passions that is meaningful and does not take up my entire daily existence.
  • Working smarter and not harder
  • Doing a tipped position that requires fewer hours a week
  • Making time every day for your family and friends, whether it is time in person or on the phone. Relationships need constant attention. Never take them for granted.
  • Live in a city that you can afford! Sometimes we are simply living above our means. If we cannot afford where we live without 2+ jobs and 2+ roommates… it may be time to relocate.
  • Every hour of Overtime is a Sacrifice! Our time has so much value that rises above money. Our children and family/friends are worthy of that precious time.
  • What else can we do?

I will leave you with this quote and a link to more positive quotes:

“Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born.” – Anais Nin More here!

One Radiant Life Update

Welcome Everyone!

Thank you for stopping by today to see my post. I have not posted in awhile, and I will share with you why and what my plans are for the blog. I care very passionately about our health and I want all of us to thrive and prosper. This year has been very challenging for me. Until two weeks ago I was working 7 days a week with two jobs for most of this year, and it has been the source of much stress. It can be so difficult to have the right work/life balance these days, and I am sure many of you may be struggling with this very thing. You get tunnel vision and are just living in survival mode. This was the beginning of my troubles this year.

  • Did You Know?   Sweden has introduced 6 hour work days, only 1% of the working population works more than 50 hours, and by law companies have to pay for 25 vacation days a year! Can you imagine? Work/Life Balance

After many months of building stress, my body decided to REBEL! I know many people can bear many years of stress and unhealthy eating and habits, but my body decided to take a stand! I have not had a lot of time to food prep and make healthy meals until recently, so it has been lots of veggie fast food trips to Thai, Indian, and Chinese restaurants. Tons of fat, MSG, sodium, gluten, and refined carbs day in and day out. Have you ever been so busy you find yourself eating out all the time? I love preparing own meals, but it does take time and effort that some of us may not have.

  • Did You Know?   Americans spend more on eating out than buying groceries? One month sampled last year showed that Americans spent $52.3 billion eating out, versus $49.7 billion on groceries! 2015 was the first documented year that this has happened and is showing a scary trend toward the convenient fast foods. Eating Out

It is terrifying what stress can do, and it brought to surface many health challenges. The good news is that since this all began about 4 months ago, I have been able to make a lot of progress. So what did my body do?

  1. Massive Weight Gain
  2. Neurological Problems
  3. Psychological Problems
  4. Muscle Weakness
  5. Extreme Fatigue
  6. Gastrointestinal Distress
  7. High resting heart rate/Irregular heart rate
  8. Illness when consuming almost any foods at all

In regards to #8, I will tell you that it is hard for me to eat anything now. My body has become incredibly sensitive. When I started becoming ill I started giving up everything to help my system heal and start to recover. Eating sugar, fat, caffeine, refined carbs, gluten, and any flour products seemed to make it all worse! I have a very negative reaction to foods that fall on this list and have given them up as much as possible. I have had countless tests done already, and have more scheduled. Very little has been found at all, except that the doctor believes I am suffering from chronic stress. However! The self-assessment and testing I have done has revealed things to me. It turns out I am intensely Gluten Intolerant! When I gave up sugar and gluten my stomach was quiet for the first time in decades! What a difference! Any of you who suffer from any stomach issues should try giving it up for a month and see how you feel. It made a HUGE difference for me…

  • Did You Know?   Gluten is linked to many severe symptoms that often go undiagnosed for years! While stress made everything worse, gluten has turned out to be the cause of many of my problems! Check out this amazing article HERE

So the good news is, that I have been making improvements in my life such as letting go of one of my two jobs, spending more time outside, exercising more, eating cleaner (very clean!), and spending time with friends and family. My recovery has been slow and it is still ongoing. Even as I type I feel my nervous system fighting me with anxiety and a high heart rate. I have learned it will pass and I just ride it out while doing everything I can to self-help. My spiritual life helps me daily as well, never downplay that!

So, what I am here to tell you is, that I would like to start spending more time with all of you. We are all on this journey together, and the choices we make everyday affect our health and well being. Let me be a testament to what stress can do to you, and start making changes now! Don’t wait for it to over take you my friends, do something now.

  • Did You Know?   Some statistics show that 77% of the population regularly experience Physical symptoms from stress, and 73% of the population experience Psychological Symptoms from stress. Check it Out.

Finally, I am looking forward to reporting more good news about my recovery. I also am looking forward to discussing many topics on how we can all live One Radiant Life together! Thank you for stopping by today!

Tricky Foods: The Game of Selling Junk Foods as Health Foods

Welcome everyone back to One Radiant Life!

Today I want to talk with you about Tricky Foods. By tricky, I mean foods that are often sold as so-called health foods, but are not really healthy at all.  It can be so frustrating these days to eat healthy with all the marketing and disinformation out there. We may all know that a juicy double cheeseburger with bacon is no health food…. but what about a “natural” protein bar or “health” shake? The truth is that companies can for the most part say whatever they want about their products! Did you know a cereal that claims to have various fruits may not even have a single fruit included, for example? They can use sneaky buzz words like all-natural, natural, healthy, whole grain, and low-fat but still be marketing a very unhealthy product. Who gets to determine what natural and healthy mean exactly? What about all the sugar, all the processed foods, all the refined grains in breads and cereals, what about all the chemicals and soy isolates? This post is designed to address some of these issues.

What for sure is a healthy and natural food, can you guess? Foods with ONE ingredient that are plant based and unrefined! We may not always be able to just eat these items, and may revert to Frankenfoods that are more appropriately named “food-like products”, but lets at least start with an understanding of what something truly healthy looks like.

150506112204-fruits-nuts-vegetables-grains-stock-super-169

Our bodies were designed to eat fresh foods in their natural state. Bananas, apples, raw cashews, herbs, tomatoes, and kiwis! Even items that have to be cooked (traditionally) to enjoy like beans, lentils, brown rice, and quinoa. Our bodies can actually recognize these foods without having to look up Google to figure it out! The more refined and processed a food is, the more it becomes a “food-like product” instead.

So let’s get started here. Let’s take a stroll through some typical foods marketed as being “healthy” and see if we have had the wool pulled over our eyes.

2

Protein “Health” Bars. Interesting how these look awfully similar to candy bars. The food industry has been successfully able to make the general public feel as if they are protein starved and this couldn’t be farther from the truth. Everything we eat has some level of protein. A mother’s milk only has 5% protein to grow a strong baby and it does just fine. These bars are typically loaded with sugar, soy protein isolates, and addictive food additives. Both of which can lead to insulin resistance and hormone imbalances. I have always eaten a lot of soy via soymilk and tofu, but there are many studies linked to soy products (especially processed ones like soy protein isolate) that show they affect hormones, libido, and fertility in a bad way. Check out Dr. Mercola’s Article Here. If you need energy on the go and still want a bar then check out some of the actual healthy options that have a short list of recognizable ingredients that will give you sustained energy such as one shown below.

** Also try Lara bar, Nii Bars, and Organic Food Bars (<actual name of company)

VeganFoodProducts

Vegan Meat Replacements. I am not going to lie, I used to rely heavily on these before I knew what vegetarians and vegans ate. The first time I became vegan in 2002 I had no idea what to eat since I rarely ate vegetables at the time and had a very meat centric diet. It didn’t help that I couldn’t cook either, so ready-made vegan hot dogs, corn dogs, and Chik’n tenders helped a lot! So what’s the problem!? Well even though these products may be vegetarian or even vegan, most of them are still refined and processed with high sodium, fat (oils), and sugars. There is a reason that no-meat sausage and meat does not look like a piece of wheat or a soybean anymore. Yes they are filling and delicious sometimes, but can never replace fresh vegetables, beans, and legumes! They often still have GMOs and food additives that are addictive and unhealthy.

yogurtsOrange

Vegan Yogurts, Fruit Juices, and Agave Nectar.

These products are in general what I like to call LIQUID SUGAR… Yes friends, these products may have even 100% natural ingredients but they are still loaded with sugar! When you separate juice from the fiber it becomes a fructose concentrate and it slams your system and skyrockets your blood sugar. And Agave syrup is processed and very high in fructose… even more than High Fructose Syrup! Read This I would like to add here that I have often used Agave syrup in the past thinking it was a lower glycemic index sweetener, but the science just does not support that.

Nut Butters.

Quick note on nut butters. There are many nut butters available today and I would just like to say that if it has more than two ingredients I would skip it! Most nut butters are loaded with extra fat, sugar, and preservatives. A raw organic almond butter would be the best option (as shown on the right side), but roasted or salted in moderation is alright if it is organic. Watch out for peanut butters because they often have molds and have less nutrition than other nut butters.

StampProducts

Whole Grain Breads, Pastas, and Cereals.

Now we are going to talk about grains. Nothing is as filling and delicious as carbs and luckily there are some options for healthfully indulging in carbs and starches which I will discuss. Unfortunately, many grain products that are marketed as healthy are not. Just because it says multigrain, whole grain, or “healthy” does not make it so! Unless a bread product says 100% whole wheat it has refined flours as well. Even a 100% whole grain bread, tortilla, pita or bun often  has added ingredients like dairy, sugar, and preservatives. Sprouted organic breads and tortillas are a better option, even if they are a little more expensive.

An important issues to do with products that have grain flours in their impact on aging and blood sugar. Pulverized modern strains of wheat and other grains raise blood sugar very quickly! A piece of whole grain bread affects blood sugar more than other whole grains that have not been refined such as millet, quinoa, and wild rice.

Here is a quote from the link below:

“Research shows that a piece of whole wheat bread spikes your blood sugar just as much, if not more as a can of soda. The hybridization of our grain supply has created “super” sugars and increased the gluten content, both deleterious to your health. Even gluten-free grains like rice and oats can cause similar problems in people. Throughout history, when grains were consumed they were soaked, sprouted and fermented (and not hybridized or genetically modified for that matter). The solution: Use grain-free options made from coconut flour, arrowroot starch, tapioca flour, plantain flour and almond flour.”

Article on Grains and Flours HERE

Grains affect everyone differently, and often they affect the digestive system as well. You may have bloating and upset stomach problems for example. There are so many option these days to reduce or eliminate grains. But if you are like me and love the grains then try to stick with whole unrefined grains so you can have beautiful skin, less inflammation, and lower blood sugar.

dr

Sugar-free Drinks.

I recently had a co-worker tell me that she shared my love of sparkling water. I told her that while it was an acquired taste, that it helped me over my soda addiction years ago and that now I love them. It wasn’t until she showed me one of the drinks shown above, that I realized she was not talking about sparking water at all. Drinking these fake sugar laden sparkling clear drinks is no better than having a diet sprite! They are soda period! My rule with drinks are this: if it has more than two ingredients then skip it! Here is what I drink:

  • Good old fashioned H2o
  • Unsweetened Teas (partial to English breakfast and Jasmine Green Teas)
  • Sparkling water with only fruit essence oils (not juice)

Okay everyone, thank you for stopping by for this discussion! Good luck with your meals and I wish you all abundant health!

To Sweeten… or Not to Sweeten

image

Yes, that is the question.

Welcome back everyone. Today I want to talk about a hot topic we all deal with one way or another. Sweeteners in our food! Sugar and sugar substitutes have an impact on our health concerning blood sugar, insulin resistance, cravings, and brain chemistry. Sugar can be a highly addictive substance especially when highly refined and processed.

Sugar and artificial sweeteners are in almost everything we eat today, and not just the obvious foods like candy and soda. Sugar is in pasta sauces, packaged foods, condiments, and fast food hidden in a vast variety of names such as:

Corn syrup, diglycerides, disaccharides, evaporated cane juice, erythritol, fructooligosaccharides, galactose, glucitol, glucoamine, hexitol, inversol, isomalt, maltodextrin, malted barley, malts, mannitol, nectars, raisin syrup, ribose rice syrup, rice malt, rice syrup solids, sorbitol, xylitol and zylose.

Sugar and artificial sweeteners have a huge affect on our bodies and minds and we should all be aware of our options.

Before we delve into our sweet options, I would like to discuss the best possible option we have, and it is the one I am striving for, which is NO SWEETENERS at all! I battle with Food Addiction and severe cravings on a daily basis, so for people like me, no sweeteners is the best option. Sugars and most artificial sweeteners lead to problems in my blood sugar and lead to energy crashes and impulsive cravings for me. I have learned to drink carbonated water and unsweetened teas, and while it took a couple weeks to get used to, it has been worth it! If you do not have these issues, but simply want to be healthier then this blog post is for you!

image

Most Natural Sweeteners

If you do want to include some sweetness in your life then the best options are organic sweeteners that have little to no refinement. Maple syrup is a classic example. As long as it went from tree to bottle directly, that is about as natural as it gets! If you are ok with raw honey, that is another natural source. Most of these sweeteners are less sweet than table sugar, but they also have unique delicious flavors and tend to be lower on the glycemic index.

image

Processed Natural Sweeteners:

The next category is the one I have used the most often, mostly stevia. Stevia, for example, is a naturally sweet low/no calorie plant, but it must be processed to be used. Even if it is organic, it has still been refined and therefore our bodies can have varied effects to it. While it is not supossed to spike blood sugar, I notice that I still crave sugars while using it.

image

Another two primary sweeteners in this category would be xylitol and erythritol. Many people in the nutrition industry promote all three of these and they are definitly healthier and safer than artificial sweeteners such as aspartame and sucrose.

image

Processed Sugar & Artificial Sweeteners:

This category includes the worst health offenders! Sweet & Low, Equal, and Splenda have dangerous chemicals and many studies have shown that they a toxic to our whole bodies. I have had personal experience with these sweeteners and I suffered from neurotoxicity. I began having severe brain fog, buzzing in my ears and head, and began having headaches and dizziness all the time. It was terrifying! I researched the symptoms and found out that my high consumption of the artificial sweeteners could be the cause. I instantly ceased my intake of the chemicals and within a week I started feeling 100% better. I tend to be more sensitive to toxins, and this blessing in disguise helps me stop taking in things that make me sick very quickly. One of the worst things I would consume was endless Diet cokes. They are a dangerous combination of caffeine and aspartame which creates hunger and creates cell death in your brain. Excitotoxins create a pleasurable sensation in your brain and then they wreak havoc!

So wrap up, I would just like to say that there are so many reasons to eliminate most sweeteners from our lives. Definitely try to eliminate all artificial chemical sweeteners. Here are some primary reasons to reduce or elimate all sweeteners:

Anti-aging benefits: Sugars mess with your hormones and can escalate aging in your entire body and especially your skin.

Blood Sugar: Sugars can create insulin resistance and add to weight gain and disease.

Weight: Sugars lead to cravings and can raise cortisol levels. Most sugars are empty calories and since they are mostly devoid of nutrition, our bodies continue to feel hungry since so many nutrients are still needed.

So, thank you everyone for stopping by. I just wanted to do a quick overview of sweeteners and I hope you feel motivated ro make some changes! See you next time…

P.s. Try putting a bag of licorice tea in with your regular selection of tea to add a natural sweetness!

A Body in Motion….

image

Hello everyone!

Winter is winding down now, spring is almost here and it has just been gorgeous here in San Diego. I usually try to take advantage of the cool and dry winters here since it makes for a great outdoor adventure. I can hike, bike, and walk without the sweltering heat that summer brings every year! My favorite day is a breezy 72° with little puffy white clouds dotting the sky.

image

Unfortunately, This winter has brought some changes in my life and I have fallen into a sedentary trap! While I have always struggled with my weight, I have still usually been active on a regular basis whether it is the gym, a bike ride, or a relaxing hike. I just love the way it makes me feel… so energizing!

image

Well after switching jobs to a longer commute and longer (later) hours I have begun to fall out of my energizing routine. It normally never takes much effort for me to go exercise, but these last couple of months have me feeling like a sloth…. not good! I am usually the annoying one always posting pix online from my outdoor adventures and I need that back…. Fast

image

I am sure most of you have heard of Newton’s First Law of Motion: An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion.

I have found to be extremely true in my own life with physical activity. It kills me that right now I feel like it takes so much effort to anything right now, I just want to hibernate and play video games! When I am a body in motion I cannot imagine sitting around wasting time…. I look forward to my workouts because I feel so amazing afterwards and it makes my whole day productive.

I am writing this post to help kickstart myself and propel myself into motion as soon as possible. It can be hard to be physically active every day if you are not used to it, but I am here to tell you (and remind myself) that once you get moving it gets easier every time! Soon you find exercize to be a normal, beneficial, and highly important part of your day. Whether it is a run, a bike ride, a yoga class, a nice scenic walk, or some MMA!

image

So I want encourage everyone to do whatever you can to get and stay in motion. The benefits are abundant and inmediate in some cases! Being physically active helps with so many things such as:

– Mood
– Weight
– Blood Circulation
– Self-Confidence
– So much more!

Well thank you for stopping by today, and I am walking away feeling new motivation to get myself moving and I hope this has been motivating for you as well!

My Favorite 2 Vintage San Diego Theaters

Welcome Everyone!

I just recently started a new job working for a theater and that is why you have not seen me post for a wee bit here. Things are settling down and yesterday while I was at work I suddenly started reminiscing about two of my old favorite closed theaters that used to exist in Mission Valley here in San Diego. They had the amazing giant single screens with a capacity of almost 1,000 people per showing! They were giants and I am so sad that era is over. My favorite memories of the theaters is when Star Wars was re-released in the late 1990’s and they were shown at these theaters. What an amazing thing it was! Seeing the movies for the first time (in my case) on the BIG SCREEN….. just magical.

So what theaters am I talking about? I will show you below. For those of you who never have been to these old vintage theaters, just see if these two theaters bring back any special memories for you of watching movies in the 80’s and 90’s. I even miss the old demolished AMC in Santee and the old small theater that existed at Parkway Plaza mall in El Cajon before it was removed and a new Regal moved in. The Santee theater was awesome because it had the wild and dark tile and 70’s rust and brown colors…. Well now I will walk you down memory lane for my two favorite vintage theaters and give you a little background on them… come with me.

Valley Circle Theater 1966-1998

This beauty was right next to the Mission Valley Mall where the Gordon Biersch now resides. This theater sat up to 922 people on a single sprawling level that seemed to go on forever! It was here that I saw two if the Star Wars movies when they were re-released in 1997, The original Star Wars and Return of the Jedi. Walking in with almost 1,000 other people to see these movies on the big screen brought them to life for me in a way I never knew was possible! I tried to locate pictures of the inside of the theater, but had no success. If any of you happen to have any let me know!

Cinema 21 1963-late 90’s

One word for this old vintage gem…. Magnificent!

I cannot tell you how much I miss this theater! This is where I saw The Empire Strikes Back in 1997. I have fond memories of going to this theater with my Dad and often by myself. I knew even back then these glorious old giants were not long for this world. This theater sat up to 1,000 people and created an exciting environment that I have not experienced in current theaters…. The screen was 60 feet and there were reclining seats in the last 10 rows. The theater was so huge that even with modern sound systems there could be detected a delay in the sound depending on how far back you sat!

Well folks, I hope this trip down memory lane brought some fond movie memories to the forefront of your mind! You are welcome to share some of your favorite movie experiences from the past below in the comments! Have a great night and as always, enjoy your One Radiant Life!
